about edna cabcabin moran
Edna Cabcabin Moran writer & illustrator

Edna Cabcabin Moran creates artwork for magazines, books, billboards, t-shirts and brochures. She is also the author/illustrator of THE SLEEPING GIANT: A Tale from Kaua'i (BeachHouse Publishing 2006).

Edna works in a painterly style using traditional materials such as acrylic, pastel, gouache, and colored pencil. She combines different media to express the feeling, theme or mood of a story. Her line-art is rendered by hand in brush pen and digitally-colored. After receiving a BA in Art (Printmaking) at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Edna worked as a graphic artist for a t-shirt company, small publisher and several newspapers before going freelance.

Awards and recognition include: Writers Digest 2006 Competition Honorable Mention in Rhyming Poetry, the Northern CA Gold Addy and Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles Illustration Merit. Edna is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and a 2005 scholarship participant at the Highlights Foundation Writers workshop at Chautauqua.

, under the direction of Kumu Hula, Patrick Makuakane, from whom she received formal training as ‘Olapa Hula. Edna’s experience in hula and other ethnic dance forms have taken her on tours to Japan, Taiwan, Hawai’i, New York and Los Angeles. Working with Bay Area talent agencies, Edna has provided professional entertainment and creative services for private and corporate functions, children’s parties and events for nearly twenty years.

When my daughter
was about seven years old,
she asked me one day
what I did at work.
I told her I worked
at the college--that my job
was to teach people to draw.

She stared at me,
incredulous, and said,
"You mean they forget?"
